where can i get a engagement ring pawned/sold?
I have a 1 carat princess cut platinum diamond ring that I want to get money for but not get completely ripped off. I am unsure of any stores that buy rings here in San Jose, California. If you know of any places that buy rings or a place where I can get the most money from let me know.

Try E-Bay
If it’s gold, you’re in luck. Gold is selling high right now. Go to your local jeweler or look in the phone book for local pawn shops or gold dealers. Take the diamond out if selling it just for the gold and either have it reset as an alternative piece of jewelry or sell the diamond separately.
Do you have the certificate or appraisal? Without those you won’t have much luck…but with them I would try ebay or craigslist…you will do better than a pawn shop. Our pawn show only pays for gold weight on rings…nothing for diamonds.
Or you could just give it back to your ex-fiance…
Do have the certificate/appraisal for the diamond? You should definitely have those if you are trying to sell it, because the quality of the diamond is what will set the price.
Unfortunately resale on diamonds is really bad/low. Your best bet is to try selling it on Ebay or Craigslist, but again, you will probably only get 50%-70% of what you paid for it. Jewelry stores mark up diamonds almost 100% from wholesale, and so they definitely won’t give you that much above wholesale back (such a rip off, I know!)
If you get the appraisal you can look up comparable diamonds on a website like http://bluenile.com/ or http://www.diamondpriceguru.com/ and then set your price a little above that (their prices are really close to wholesale). You best bet to sell it quickly is price it right, so you can make some money, but people won’t think it’s overpriced from other things they can find online.
Good Luck!
all diamond rings are marked up a lot for retail – you’ll be lucky if you get 30-50% of the retail price from anyone
Try Craigslist.com
Be sure to state you have the appraisal (gotta have it for a good sale) and describe it to perfection.
Give it back to the dude and let him deal with it.
He should be able to bring it back to the store and turn it in for credit against something more expensive.
I say give it back to the person who gave it to you.
are you sitting down. you will only get about 1000 for the stone. scrap for the metal.
used diamonds have about 1/4 of the retail value.
make a pendant out of it.
I had a similar situation about 4 years ago. Unfortunately, you are not going to get the full worth for it, but you can make some money off of it. Pawn shops are not going to give you anything. I had an engagement ring appraised at $1,300 and the pawn shop offered me $75. I just laughed. I think your best bet would be to put it on Craigslist (very popular in California from what I understand). That’s what I did and it sold immediately for $500. A young guy bought it for his girlfriend and was able to get it sized up a few sizes. She loved it and they lived happily ever after (I hope!).
Hopefully, you have the diamond certification and if not, you should be able to get an appraiser/jeweler to write something up for you. With a 1 c. diamond platinum ring, you should be able to get a decent amount for it. Good luck!
